Frequent Flyer: London

September 24, 2010

The fall of work travel has begun, with trips planned every other week through the end of October (blech!). This trip started with another Sunday of travel (double blech!!) to DC for meetings, and then the red-eye to London (triple blech!!!).

As lovely as London is, I was staying quite far from city center. In fact, I was at a hotel next to London Heathrow (ok, I'll stop 'blech'-ing now). To get into London city center, I had to take the hotel shuttle (named the "Hotel Hoppa" to and from LHR for 7 pounds), the Heathrow Express (32 pounds round trip) and then the Underground (~2 pounds).

As inconvenient as that was, I did head to London city proper twice during the week I was there. On the Tuesday, I met up with some co-workers in Covent Garden.

We grabbed some fish and chips at a local pub (yum!):
And then walked around Oxford Circus/Picadilly Circus:
For dinner, we followed online reviews and ended up at a Verraswamy for some Indian grub. Veerswamy is apparently London's oldest Indian restaurant (established 1926).
Chicken lollipops (this was so good!):
King scallops in a yellow curry:

It was at this point during dinner that I was politely asked not to take any more pictures of the food, so no more pics. But, this was an awesome meal.

The next two days were filled with meetings at the hotel by LHR. On Thursday night, we were treated to dinner in Windsor, at The House on the Bridge. Beautifully situated on Windsor Bridge in Eton, Windsor.

I had the house cured Salmon with dill and horseradish cream to start:
And the roasted rack of lamb with onion potato croquette for the entree:
Creme brulee:

Dinner was fabulous. We were close to Windsor Castle, so we decided to go for a post-meal-digesting walk.

On Friday night, there was only me and a co-worker left in London, so we headed back into the city for dinner with my college friend, Dee-Anna. We met up and headed to Marylbone for dinner and ended up at a fantastic New Zealand-inspired tapas place called The Providores. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, but it was a fantastic meal and it was so great to catch up with Dee.

On Saturday morning, I flew back to SF, landing in time for the insane heat wave (jeez, such a drastic change from getting-chilly London!). Ahh, SF summer...

Batteries to Bluffs

September 12, 2010

Saturday was one of the most gorgeous days in SF (at least with me in town, as I've missed most of the gorgeous days this summer due to travels).

I went for brunch with Key at Q in the Inner Richmond (cute shops nearby that I had never gone into before, including Park Life and Seedstore).

From there, we headed over to Presidio and the ocean to do the short hike called Batteries to Bluffs. We parked at the WWII Memorial, and then skirted across Lincoln Blvd to Battery Crosby, just north of Baker Beach.

The hike has beautiful overlooks of the Golden Gate Bridge and it was perfectly clear when we started.

Fog starting to roll in...
Fog's here...
To get away from the fog, we headed over to Inspiration Point, ahh....

I hope you all had a great Saturday too!

Ma & Pa on the Links

September 7, 2010

My parents were in town for the Labor Day long weekend, so I flew back from Albany on Saturday night so I could hang with them (and my aunts and uncles).

On Sunday night, we headed to Chaya Brasserie for a great dinner:

On Monday, Will, my folks and I headed to Half Moon Bay to play the Ocean Course of the Ritz golf course. It was a perfect day for golf:

I hope you all had a great long weekend!
