Hockey Night in SF

Will plays on two hockey teams, one B league team (on Tues/Wed) and one C league team (on Sun/Mon). The Panteras (C league team) finally had an early 8:20 pm game, so I went along to cheer them on.

The Panteras didn't have many subs and had tight rotation. It was a really good game, here are some lame action shots from my digi:

Will scored the first two goals to put the Panteras up 2-0 in the first period, But then the Prairie Dogs got back in it in the second period tying things up to end the second at 2-2. In the third, Will had a fantastic break-away goal to take the lead 3-2, which was answered by a Prairie Dog goal (tied 3-3). With 6 minutes left, Will scored the fourth in front of the net batting in his own rebound from the initial wraparound try. The Prairie Dogs pulled their goalie and managed to tie it up to take it to overtime with 19 seconds left.

Overtime (5 minutes) was pretty exciting, when finally one of the Panteras (not Will, ha!) scored with only 17 seconds left in the OT. Final Score: Panteras 5 - Prairie Dogs 4.

Very exciting game, it was fun watching Will score so many goals. I guess I should go and cheer them on more often, eh?

Mr. & Mrs. T$'s New Digs

San Francisco celebrated Pride Weekend, and Saturday was a bit of a zoo in our neighborhood. Parking was insanity.

Will and I escaped to Key's place in the mission for dinner with Key and Katharine before heading to Trent & Shelly's housewarming party.

Trent & Shelly bought a great townhome in Potrero Hill last last year and after some tumultous first-time-home-owner projects, they were able to have a big Landon housewarming party. Sweet!

Of course, jello shots were in the house with four flavors: mandarin orange/vodka, rum & coke, grape/vodka, margarita

Kat brought the fixins' for making apple-pear martinis:

Charlotte & Simon Turn 2!

I'm starting to sound like my parents and their friends when I look at my sister's kids and say that annoying statement "Oh look at these kids, they grow up so fast these days". But it's true.

On Saturday, Will and I went down to Santa Clara for Charlotte & Simon's birthday celebration (their birthday is actually Sunday). They're turning 2 years old! Egads!

Charlotte was having quite the grumpy-pants day, as not much was bringing a smile to her face. Even the kiddie pool didn't make her happy, which was not expected. We think Charlotte suffers from overwhelmed-itis. In contrast, Simon and Olivia were all about the water and having a good time.






While we were icing all the cupcakes, my sister, Terrina and I reminisced about Charlotte & Simon's first weeks in the NICU and coming home after all that craziness.










And then we discovered the quick cure for Charlotte's grump-pants-ness: the bouncy house. According to Char-Char, it was the best time ever!

Holmes is In Town!

On Wednesday, Will and I went for dinner at La Ciccia with Robert, Sue Hee, Holmes, and Holme's girl, Amielle. Holmes and Amielle were in town from work from Vancouver (I'm sensing a theme here...). I met Holmes' in 2004 at the famous international beach frisbee tournament, Paganello in Italy, as he played on the team that I was supposed to be playing with (Bonesaw) and couldn't due to the torn ACL problem.

I love La Ciccia, and this visit did not disappoint. I didn't blog the food, as I've done that two times before, but I can reassure you that the food here is phenomenal and always interesting.

Great to see you Holmes and Amielle! See you in Vancouver in August!

Michelle's In Town!

Last night, I finally went to go see the "Sex and the City" movie with JoJo, Heather and Sandy. It was wonderful and it's no surprise that I (little miss crier of movies, tv shows, commercials, etc.) needed some kleenex. I laughed, I cried, I ogled the great clothes, shoes and style. Go see it.

After the movie, JoJo and I caught up with Wendy and Michelle in Upper Haight at Alembic for late bites and a drink. Michelle is in town from Vancouver for work (she works for the awesome mountain bike company, Kona, the maker of my rad full-suspension mountain bike that I never ride but swear I will ride more in the future).


Bacon cracker jacks. Seriously, enough said. Ridiculously good. Bacon really does make everything better. We also snacked on some Moroccan-spiced lamb burger sliders (accompanied by some insane Moroccan travel stories from JoJo and Michelle) and the miso-glazed black cod. Yum!

Mission In The Mix

Will flew to Orlando on Sunday for three days of work, so I spent the afternoon with Sue Hee, Susan and Wendy downtown.

On Sunday night, Sloane and I went to go see Kali perform with her hip hop workshop at Dance Mission as part of the Mission In the Mix show. The show is a 6-night performance (3 nights this weekend, 3 nights next weekend) that features the hip hop workshops under the tutelage of famous SF choreographer and producer, Micaya, as well as several performances by Micaya's dance company, SoulFource, and some guest troupes.

They all did a great job, and Sloane and I are inspired to sign up for next year's workshop. It looked so great!

The night was really fun. SoulForce is a diverse dance company, including jazz, contemporary, tap and artistic dance in addition to their hip hop arsenal. The guest dance groups were fantastic as well. My favorite was a small group of three ladies called the Fireflies, who incorporated poi and hula hoop into their sweet hip hop routine.

There's three more shows this weekend if you want to check it out, it's a really entertaining time.

Stadium to Stadium 2008

On Saturday morning, I ran the Mayor Newsom's Stadium to Stadium 10K Challenge with Gail and Sue Hee. The 10K route started at AT&T Park and ended at Monster Park. The race was to start at 9 am, so we took Muni down to AT&T Park around 8 am to make sure we were all good to go. At 8 am, it was already stinking hot, and this did not bode well for the run.

The route took us through the "up-and-coming" neighborhoods of Mission Bay, Dogpatch, Bayview and Hunter's Point. It was an interesting journey, going through some pretty dramatic socio-economical contrasts in the city.


It was stinking hot, no breeze to help, we tried to run in the shadow of buildings as much as possible. The route followed the Muni-T line down Third Street and then veered off Third Street toward Monster Park. At this point, there was no shade to be had, and thank goodness I was carrying some water.

Between three and four miles, you could see Monster Park in the distance, but it was just a painful tease, as there was still two miles to go, and you had to run around the huge parking lot and then back around in order to end in Monster Park.



The finish line was in the stadium on the grass, it was so nice to run on that grass.



All in all, it was a good race, I was surprised I still ran my usual time (9:45 min/mile pace) because the heat was so brutal and I thought for sure it had slowed me down.
The race was organized a little poorly, the transportation back to Muni was a mess and after waiting over half hour in the beating sun, we hitched a ride with some nice folks from Chico to the Muni. Thank goodness for kind souls!

Only six weeks left until the half-marathon...!
