South Food + Wine Bar

Adam and Wade were in town this week for work stuff, so Will and I went for dinner on Monday night with them to South Food + Wine Bar, located across the street from the CalTrain station in SOMA, right close to the ball park. Of course, I had been wanting to try this place out, new and trendy and all that, but also because of our recent travels to Sydney and NZ. I was dying to eat some lamb.

I started with the Grilled prawns + Moorish crunch salad, which was nice and refreshing, and there were quite a few prawns, which were very yummy.
Will had the South crab omelette with enoki mushrooms + miso mustard broth, which was also yummy, and different, but in a good way.
For my entree, I had the Victorian lamb loin with sumac, celeriac puree, asparagus, parsley, shallots and capers, which was exactly what I was jones-ing for. I'm salivating just looking at the picture again. The celeriac puree was wonderful, I wished there was more on the plate.
Will had the West Australian barramundi, rozelle spices, israeli cous cous mussels, tomato, cucumber + dill. The fish was nice and the cous cous was very tasty.

The restaurant was smaller than I expected, but the room was nice and warm. They print their menu on the back of an "Aussie/Kiwi News" page, which was hilarious. It was also a good meal, and I would recommend it.

Socializing Shenanigans

Another weekend of no snow made it really easy to stay in town, especially with Ashley in town and lots of folks looking to hang out in the city.

FRIDAY

On Friday night, Will and I headed out to North Beach to check out Chuck's band, The Wayside State, who were playing at Grant and Green. You may recall that Grant and Green was the location of one of Chuck's infamous gigs with his cover band (Wyatt Riot), in which ridiculousness ensued. Maybe it's the locale, but there was definitely some ridiculousness at this place again on Friday night.














At some point, we headed over to Fillmore Street to Harry's Bar. Apparently, James, Ashley and I were having some good times with my digi in the back of Wendy's car, here's just one of about 10 pictures that we took on the way to Harry's.





Considering we had been out socializing since 7:30 pm, there was no need to be still out at 2 am at Harry's but c'est la vie.

SATURDAY

I'm not going to lie to you, I may have been a little ill on Saturday. In fact, a lot of ill. I dragged myself out of bed around 11:30 am and managed to get myself to the Marina for a run with Wendy and Gail. It was a gorgeous day, sunny and clear, although a little cool. The run was pretty painful, but I was so glad to sweat out the toxicity.

Wendy, Gail and I stuck around on Union Street and explored all the little stores for about 4-5 hours. It was a wonderful girls' day.

I got home around 7 pm, and chilled out. The ladies managed to rally and headed out for a late dinner at Tokyo Go Go.

Will had gone mountain biking with the boys and started another epic day of "socializing", so we met up with the boys back in the Marina (sheesh, what was with all the neighborhoods that I never hang out in?) at La Barca.




Thankfully, I was a little more restrained on Saturday night and I was in much better shape for the next day.

SUNDAY

Robert organized dim sum on Sunday morning, so I went and joined the folks at Ton Kiang in the Richmond.


In the afternoon, Wendy and I went to Golden Gate Park to for a bbq that Vitaly was co-hosting at the Pioneer Log Cabin picnic area. There was lots of yummy nibblies (lamb and beef skewers!) and socializing to be had. As with Saturday, it was sunny and clear, but brisk.














By the end of the weekend, I was exhausted from all the socializing that I had done on the weekend. But it was super fun. I'll have to do this again next year, it'll take me that long to recuperate...:)

Ashley Returns!

I was excited to hear that Ashley was coming back into town for a long weeknd during her spring break from grad school, so we (Sandy, Wendy, Dana, Ashley and I) had a small girls' dinner at Dana's place in Bernal Heights, which has a fantastic panoramic view of the city. Check it out:




It was great catching up with the ladies and especially Ashley. We miss you Ashley!
