Stockholm - June 2013

June 28, 2013

After Frankfurt, I was on a plane again, but this time to Stockholm! I was quite excited, as I had never been to Sweden, so this was a work trip to look forward to!

We arrived in Stockholm on Tuesday night and then headed right up to Uppsala for one night. We had meetings on Wednesday, and then we back to Stockholm for two nights.

On Wednesday night, I was with three co-workers and we toured Gamla Stan, the old town neighborhood of Stockholm.

Nobel Museum!

Royal Palace

Some artisanal cheese and charcuterie to fill a tourist's belly!

For dinner, we headed to Djuret, where they are famous for cooking a whole animal and featuring only dishes from that featured animal on the menu at one time. However, for the summer season, they feature a BBQ on the rooftop deck, and the featured animal was pig!

Dinner was delicious, but too much food!

On Thursday morning, I went for a run on the little island called Skeppsholmen:

After the run, I met up with Greg and Mark, and we went on an epic touring day, with some specific landmarks in mind to check out in our one day of sightseeing.

First stop, the ABBA Museum!

Next stop, the Vasa Museum:

For lunch, we stopped at Restaurant Strandvagen:

After lunch and some more walking, we stopped at the Stadhaus for a tour, where the famous Nobel Prize dinner is held every year:

For dinner, I met up with Will's uncle Donald, a Stockholm local, for a traditional Swedish dinner at Prinsen:

Swedish meat balls!

After dinner, Donald took me on another epic walking tour, but this time away from the tourist sights and into the southern neighborhoods with amazing scenic viewpoints of Stockholm city:

It was an amazing day of touring a beautiful city. By the time I had gotten back to my hotel around 11:15 pm, my Fitbit said I had walked over 36,000 steps in one day!

I would love to go back to Stockholm, there's so much of the city I didn't get to see, but I'll have to save that for another time. "Adjö!" Stockholm!
