Beauty Van

June 30, 2009

On Sunday morning, Will and I met up with my aunt, uncle, cousins and their sig others/kiddies for dim sum at Happy Valley Seafood Restaurant by my aunt's house.

From brunch, we met up again with Ath, and walked over to Kitsilano to hang out with Kenny and enjoy the beautiful sunny Vancouver day...

We stopped for afternoon drinks on the patio at Karv, and we were joined by Dr. Dave, Jasmine and John.

For dinner, a crew of us (Will, Kenny, Ath, Kristi, Vicki, Double-A, Dr. Dave and I) went to Octopus Garden.

And then off to dessert at Cheesecake Etc., where we were joined by Steph and Dale, and Leslie and Martine.

Will and I had a great time catching up with everyone, very impressed that so many good friends came out to meet us in a short amount of time. I heart you all!

Leslie & Martin...Get Hitched!

June 30, 2009

On Friday night, Will and I hopped on a plan to Vancouver (we got upgraded! Mind you, it was on a United flight so it meant drinks only...) for the weekend. We were heading up to catch up with some McGill folks, who were in town to celebrate the engagement of Leslie and her Argentinian fiance, Martine. We were crashing at Ath and Kristi's place near Granville Island, and it was going to be a full weekend.

On Saturday morning, Will and I went for brunch with Kristi at the French Cultural Center at the Salade De Fruits Cafe, enjoying the sun on their patio.

I enjoyed the Salade de Saumon Fumé (smoked salmon salad) for brunch, which was perfect.
We wandered around the neighborhood and relaxed in the early afternoon. Ath is a master barista and makes pretty designs with capuccino foam:
The engagement party was supposed to start at ~3:30 PM at Leslie's mom's place in Yaletown, but a bunch of us met up beforehand to get into "costume". Bryan had the idea to all dress up in Argentinian soccer uniforms (that he picked up for super cheap in Indonesia) and arrive in the native colors to welcome Martine to the McGill family:

They loved it, and it was a hoot seeing all their faces (like the soccer uniforms with our dress shoes?). I was happy to quickly change out of the non-breathable uniforms and into my party dress...

And then, surprise, surprise, the happy couple decided to surprise everyone by calling over a JP to perform a wedding ceremony in front of all the guests!

From the "engagement becomes wedding" party, we headed over to the Opus Bar in the Opus Hotel in Yaletown to carry on the evening.

And, there is no ending the night with McGill kids without poutine. We walked a few blocks to Fritz, to get our night-ending fill of poutine.

Congrats to Leslie and Martine (we're still coming to Buenos Aires for your Argentinian wedding!)!
