More Newlyweds: Laura & Trevor!

On Friday night, Will and I met up with his cousin Laura and her new husband Trevor, who were in town for their honeymoon (more newlyweds!). We headed for dinner at Canela Bistro Bar, one of my new favorite Castro neighborhood restaurants (fantastic tapas!).

Baker & Banker

On Saturday night, Will and I caught up with Coco and Sonia for a post-wedding celebration (Coco and Sonia got hitched in July!) and dinner at Baker & Banker.
Some appetizers to start, the Liberty duck and prune terrine, herb mustard, cornichone salad, toasted baguette (from the Baker & Banker bakery):
House-smoked trout, potato latke, horseradish cream, pickled beets and shaved fennel:
Fried padron peppers, lemon and sea salt:
Brokaw's avocado, burrata, housemade fennel seed crackers, pickled shallots and Villa Manadori balsmico:
For dinner, both Sonia and I had the Mirin and soy-braised black cod with Mendocino uni and shitake sticky rice, with charred bok choy. It was A-MAZING!:
Will had the braised lamb agnolotti, smoked eggplant, shishito peppers, bouquerones, and squash blossoms:
Coco had the seared locak King salmon, eggplant caponata, black garlic, slow roasted cherry tomatoes, and basil aioli:
For dessert, the candied bacon doughnuts, bourbon cheesecake and maple glaze:
Nectarine and pluot crips with brandysnap ice cream:
Apple tarte tatin, with brown butter ice cream and almond parmesan tuille:
Pumpkin gingersnap tart with gingerbread baked Alaska:

Dinner was fantastic, we need to find a reason to go back soon. It's been a long time since I've seen such an exciting dessert menu too!

NJ/NY - September 2012

I headed back to the east coast (NJ!) for a week of work, and on one of the evenings, I got a chance to enjoy some non-work time with my group and co-worker from Basel. We headed into Manhattan to see "Wicked" on Broadway.
I loved "Wicked", it was my second time seeing it, but so great to see the NY cast (compared to the SF cast a few years ago).
On Wednesday night, I stopped at Carlo's Bakery (of "Cake Boss" fame) to grab some treats. Normally, the place is lined up ad nauseum, but I caught a break and managed to get in and out with some cupcakes.
From there, I was on the PATH and subway to Brooklyn for dinner with the Margulies. Finally, some Ethan time!
We grabbed dinner at the nearby Mile End Deli (smoked meat!):
And of course, cupcakes!
On Thursday night, it was dinner in Montclair at Fin Raw Bar & Kitchen with co-workers:

Vulcan/Calgary

Will and I headed back to the homeland for a long weekend in Vulcan/Calgary. On Friday, Will and I played in the first annual RCMP golf tournament in Vulcan with my parents. It was a Texas scramble format (four-ball-best-ball), which is super fun (no pressure!)
To add to the fun, there were "sponsored" holes, where there were either complimentary beer, Caesars, or food (hot dogs!).
On Saturday, we did a little more golf, and then had a nice dinner with folks from my home town to celebrate our recent wedding ("meet the newlyweds"). On Sunday morning, Will and I went for brunch with Donna and Karolina in Marda Loop.
Great weekend with family and friends!
