BM Season Ender Not-So-Bender

November 15, 2007

The season ended and next thing we knew, we were in the middle of November and saying goodbye to teammates, first Dave and Drea off to NZ, and now, Stephen (a.k.a. Aussie) moving back to Sydney (seriously, what is with all these people leaving SF???).

The team threw together a season-ending dinner on a Wednesday night (hence, the blatant lack of Matty A's famous jello shots) and we had some awesome pizza (Indian pizza and some pies from Zachary's).

Jesse and Kerry presented the team with various team awards (I won Best Team Mom...surprise, surprise!)

Congrats to monkeys moving on to other great adventures, now we have places to visit!

Long live Brass Monkey!

A Panteras Blowout

November 12, 2007

The next season of Yerba Buena hockey leagues has started and I was convinced to go watch the Panteras C League game on Sunday night at 8:20 pm. Will is also playing B League on Tuesday nights, but I have yet to go watch one of those games.

There's been a great trend that when I actually go to the games, the Panteras usually win and Will usually scores a goal or two, so it's a bit of pressure to show up.

Wendy got a great hooking penalty, here she is in the penalty box (what a brute!):

In the end, the Panteras won with a score of 8-2 over the Chieftans. Will scored 4 goals. A couple great breakaways, and one awesome deflection. He's such a stud.
Go Panteras!

A Season of Leaving

November 12, 2007

I went to South Bay to see the fam on Saturday, meeting up with Angie and Olivia after dance class at Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell for lunch.

I drove Olivia back home and as typical of 4-5 year olds, I experienced an onslaught of questions about everything in life and beyond. The kid asks a lot of questions (e.g. "where does rain come from?", "what's a sigh?", etc.etc.)

Cute kid video montage:

I was also surprised to find out that not only is Simon quite the jibber-jabber, he actually knows when to say thank you. These kids are amazing. Okay, maybe I'm biased.

I went back up to the city to have ladies dinner. We enjoyed some wonderful take-out Chinese food from Eric's in Noe Valley.
And the hits just keep on coming. This time, it's Abe who's packing up and heading off to live in Whistler, B.C. with Kenny over the winter, and then embarking on some travels after to Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia. To say liquid goodbye, we went to Rye bar in the Tenderloin. In keeping with the trend of hand-crafted cocktails that have double-digit prices, Rye has quite the list of specialty cocktails. I especially enjoyed the basil gimlet.

It's quite sad to see Abe go, but he's been planning this for some time, so it's no surprise. We're also looking forward to having some more incentive to visit Whistler this winter, and we are thankful that Kenny and Abe will be reunited. Good times. We'll you miss you, Abe-licioius!

Bye Bye Dave and Drea

October 10, 2007

On Friday night, we gathered for happy hour at Bruno's primarily to meet some new folks who are in on the South Lake Tahoe cabin (best cabin ever!) this upcoming winter.

From Bruno's we headed over to Cole Valley to the 855 house for a bye-bye party for Dave and Drea, who are setting roots down in Dunedin, New Zealand. Boo!

In a fit of nostalgia, I had to have a Hi-Fidelity picture:

The old 855 roommates do the hold, swish/swirl, gargle and breathe in of Cointreau (good times!):

There's a small chance that Will and I will see them when we're traveling in NZ, so hopefully this works out! Bye-bye Dave and Drea! We'll miss you!

Weekend Life After Frisbee

November 5, 2007

It was a hazy Saturday morning following the big Friday night schedule of drinking and eating, and pretty much mixing every type of alcohol possible. I am not young anymore, I should keep repeating that to myself over and over again until I remember.

However, in an effort to shake the shameful hangover from my body, I tried to be as productive as possible at home on Saturday morning (eg. laundry, e-mails, etc.) and then took BART down to the Ferry Building with Key to wander, hang out, people-watch, etc.

We passed by the San Francisco Fish Company and I couldn't resist the freshly-shucked oysters for $1.50 that were being offered. I am such an easy target. I have no idea what variety they were. They were the massive but delicious variety, I guess.

Gorgeous day:
On Saturday night, Will and I met up with Pete and Natasha at the Embarcadero Cinemas to see "Lars And The Real Girl", a really sweet, heartwarming story that was full of chuckles. The movie features Ryan Gosling (love this dude) and you should go see if it you can. I won't ruin the premise for you.

On Sunday, I went down to Santa Clara to see the kiddies:

My parents were recently visiting, as evident by all the fun new toys for the kids (including the zebra pony thing above). I missed them as I was in FL for frisbee, but I'm looking forward to seeing my folks at the end of November when I go home for a few days at the start of my sabbatical. Less than a month away!
