Wow, three birthdays in one week! My wallet's on fire!
Today was Key's birthday, and a few of us went to Le Colonial to spoil Key in celebration of the last year of his twenties (go 1976!). Le Colonial is famous for its fine French-Vietnamese cuisine and wonderful space. To be honest, I've been here before, but only to the really nice bar upstairs. It's situated on a little alley called Cosmo Street that hovers on the border of Union Square and the Tenderloin. The scene is a mix of very conservative businessmen letting loose with drinks and cigars, trendy yuppies, and ladies who are all dressed up looking for a sugar-daddy.
We opted for a family-style version of dinner. We started with a sampler of appetizers, which was pretty tasty. And for dinner, we shared the trademark dishes of Le Colonial, which included cubes of beef tenderloin (Bo Luc Lac), a coconut curry dish (Ca Ri Chay), sticky rice (Com Nep La Chuoi) and their infamous steamed sea bass in banana leaves (Ca Hap La Chuoi).
