Hot! Hot! Hot!

January 3, 2008

We were pretty mellow on New Year's day, as we went for Korean BBQ lunch, followed by a 2-hour walk/hike for Emily and I in Waka Forest, while the boys went for an epic mountain bike ride. The weather has been insanely nice the last couple days, as the sun is just scorching during the day. Later in the evening, we had a really nice dinner of lamb roast, tasting some great wines that John had in their cellar, and enjoying the last meal with just the four of us.

On the 2nd, we had another mellow morning, with a great breakfast, and our main itinerary item for the day was a visit to the Polynesian Spas in Rotorua. For Christmas, Mike and Susan had given us each the generous gift of spa therapies. So we went a little early and enjoyed the various hot thermal pools (at 36, 38, 40 and 42 degrees celsius). I had to keep hopping in and out of them, as it was already pretty warm out.

For my spa treatment, I chose the "Rotorua Mud Body Polish/AIX Combo", which is described as: A fabulous full body exfoliation utilising Rotorua thermal mud polish, gently buffs away expired skin cells, and is followed by a fragrant coconut oil based Aix Spa Massage. Feel relaxed and revitalised after this wonderful combination spa therapy.

AIX massage is massage under warm water jets. It was interesting to try something that I usually don't do (I usually go for the deep tissue massage), and my skin felt super-baby-soft afterwards. Thanks Mike & Susan!

For dinner, Johnny showed me how to slice sashimi, and we brought yellowtail (kingfish) sashimi over to Dave & Reena's place (Dave also went on the fishing trip with us) and we had an awesome kingfish barbeque. I also got to meet their adorable 2-year old son, Lucas, who also happens to have an obsession with fishing. Thanks for hosting Dave & Reena!

We're heading back to Auckland today, and we will be in Auckland until we take off back stateside on Saturday. Alas, the month-long trip is coming to a close, so it will be back to boring old SF posts soon.

Happy New Year!
