Family Time in the Great White

February 22, 2010

My auntie, Irene, is a pretty amazing woman. She was diagnosed with liver cancer over 12 years ago, and has defied all the odds since. She hasn't been feeling that well lately, so I booked a quick trip to Vancouver to see her on the weekend.

Here's a pic of Will and I with my auntie last June:

Luckily, I was able to get a flight pretty easily due to the Olympics. When I wasn't with my aunt, I was catching up with all my cousins and their families. It was a great chance to spend some time with all of them. We even had a chance to see my cousin's daughters sing in their church choir:

On Sunday morning, I stopped by John, Emily and James' house, conveniently only a few minutes from all my family! It also happened to be John's birthday, so I brought some birthday treats from Tim Hortons..mmm....

Look how big James is getting!:

Some pics of my cousins' kids:

I was glad to have made the trip and had the chance to spend some time with my family. All my good thoughts are going to my auntie to get better soon!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy VDay!

February 15, 2010

Three cheers for long weekends!

Saturday was an awesome girls' day, starting with a run in GG Park with Cindy, followed by brunch at Chez Papa Resto with Sandy, Tracy, and Cindy. The afternoon was complete with a matinee of the new ensemble romantic comedy "Valentine's Day". Awesome!

In addition to being Valentine's Day on Sunday, it was also Chinese New Year! Gung Hay Fat Choy! Welcome to the year of the tiger!

Will and I headed down to south bay for lunch with the family on Sunday. We avoided dim sum craziness and opted for mellow Cheesecake Factory.

On Sunday night, Will and I hosted a sushi-making dinner, where mad sushi roll skillz and unfiltered sake were out in full force.

Hope you all had a great VDay and Chinese New Year!

Fish Market

February 12, 2010

Not in Tokyo...I'm talking about the restaurant in San Mateo called Fish Market.

I went there on Wednesday night, a little reunion with some work folks that I used to work with (former manager and director), it was so nice to catch up with the ladies over dinner!

Kiddies!

February 7, 2010

I was jones-ing for some family time after the work travel, so I headed down to south bay on Sunday. I met up with my uncle, Angie and the kids for dim sum in Cupertino, and then over to Angie's house.

Kat's Birthday Brunch

February 7, 2010

It was great to come back to SF, I had to work Friday before the wonderful weekend. On Saturday, I went for a run with Cindy in GG Park, and then was guilt-free when Will and I headed downtown to meet up with Katharine and some other folks for her birthday brunch at Farmer Brown. Whee!

Farmer Brown features a pretty awesome all-you-can-eat buffet for $15 and all-you-can-drink mimosas for another $15 on Saturdays/Sundays, with live jazz to entertain you. Even better, the buffet includes their famous fried chicken and biscuits!

Happy Birthday Kat!

From brunch, Will and I headed to the airport to grab Julliette and Rob for a few hours. They had a layover in SF en route from Boston to Australia for their belated honeymoon (good thing they got out of Boston before that crazy storm hit the east coast!).

It was great to catch up with Jules and Rob, although it was a short visit...have fun in Australia!
