On Saturday morning, I picked up Sandy and we drove out to Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands. We were going to be running a 8K trail race that started and ended at
Rodeo Beach, organized by the
Pacific Coast Trail Runs group. This was both mine and Sandy's first trail runs.
The PCTR group puts on trail runs (one to two a month) and they are really well-run events, with multiple distance events. At this race, the 8K was the shortest distance, with 20K, 30K and 50K races as well. I couldn't even think about running something longer, given the elevation change of even the 8K!

Sandy and I also met up with Arlie and Alita. Arlie was running the 8K with us, while Alita was tackling the 20K (go Alita!).

The day was beautiful and perfect, with sunny skies and chilly enough to stay cool during the run. The views were phenomenal, making the big climb in the first 3K worth the while. It was definitely a lot slower to tackle that elevation, with plenty of reasons to walk. After the big climb, it was a really long decline to a rolling finish. In the end, I completed the 8K trail run in a time that was similar to a 10K road race. My time was 55:48 minutes (~11:23 min/mile), 40th overall (out of >120 people registered for the 8K), and 10th in my age group.

After we were all done the race, we headed to Sausolito for brunch at
Fred's Coffee Shop (great spot for brunch!). Great morning!
