Will and I went directly to Santa Clara from the bbq at Del Valle to hang out with my family, specifically my folks who are in town. For months, my sister and I have been in cahoots with my Dad in planning an early surprise party for my Mom's 60th birthday coming up on June 1. Coincidentally, a gaggle of their high school friends were in town from all over to attend a wedding, so it seemed like a good time. Some relatives from Vancouver also come down to surprise her.
The surprise became a kinda surprise when someone at the wedding my parents went to let it slip that about her birthday dinner the next night. D'oh! But at least she didn't know about some of the relatives flying into town.
The dinner was in one of the private rooms at the Dynasty Seafood Restaurant in Cupertino, a favorite place of my aunt and uncle.
My dad has a tradition of serenading my mother on her special birthdays (40th, 50th, and now her 60th), and his song of choice is "Puppet on a String" by Elvis Presley. Jack backed him up on guitar as well. It was very sweet.
